A few days ago the world lost a musical icon named Adam Yauch who, under the moniker MCA, co-founded the seminal group The Beastie Boys. We’ve been listening to “Paul’s Boutique” on repeat in the office and thinking about how chef-like it is to chop up samples and influences and mix them together into something fresh and awesome. If there was a musical version of Chopped, MCA would have been a top contender. From the band’s first hip hop recording about Carvel’s renowned mascot Cookie Puss to its latest album, “Hot Sauce Committee Part Two”, there was a food/music relationship at its core. Here are some of our favorite Beasties food and drink lyrics. Let us know yours in the comments. Posse in EffectWell I’m MCA, I got nothing to prove / Pay attention my intention is to bust a move /  I drink quarts and cans and bottles and sixes / Between the turntables keep the vodka and the mixes Time to Get IllWent outside my house. Well I’m MCA, I got nothing to prove / Pay attention my intention is to bust a move /  I drink quarts and cans and bottles and sixes / Between the turntables keep the vodka and the mixes

Time to Get Ill
Went outside my house. I went down to the deli / I spent my last dime to refill my fat belly

Intergalactic
If you try to knock me you’ll get mocked / I’ll stir fry you in my wok

The New Style
Some voices got treble, some voices got bass; we got the kind of voices that are in your face / Like the bun to the burger,  like the burger to the bun / Like the cherry to the apple, to the peach to the plum

Slow Ride
Sittin’ around the house gettin’ high and watchin’ tube / Eating Colonel’s chicken drinkin’ Heineken brew

No Sleep Till Brooklyn
Born and bred Brooklyn the USA / They call me Adam Yauch but I’m MCA / Like a lemon to a lime, a lime to a lemon / I sip the def ale with all the fly women

High Plains Drifter
‘Cause I’m mellow like Jell-O, cool like lemonade / Made my getaway and I thought that I had it made

Shadrach
I’ve got money like Charles Dickens / Got the girlies in the Coupe like the Colonel’s got the chickens

Finger Lickin’ Good
I’ll be in the paper the news with Ernie Ernesto / They’ll even print my recipe for pasta with pesto / Now here’s another special of the day / See, I’ve got more spice than the frugal gourmet

Beastie Boys: Sabotage live at Woodstock ‘99

Fuck. I remember when Sabotage started to be on MTV ALL THE TIME and shit just went crazy and me and few frends taped the video and watched it all over again for like 6 months straight. We were jumping on the walls and screaming SABOTAAAAAGE throwing shit in the air. We were like 9 or something. Still the same feeling when I hear this song. R.I.P. MCA. You really swagged the fuck out of things.
